The method involves determining a real volume of a combustion chamber at an angular moment of a crankshaft. The estimation of the volume is calculated from a partial indicated average pressure at the crankshaft. The real volume is compared with the estimated volume so that the estimated volume is repeatedly calculated from a modified value of the pressure when the difference between two volumes is more than determined error threshold.
