The method involves correcting a position of a throttle valve of an engine and/or the retardation of the timing of a spark plug of the engine using a control law to bring the shafts speed of the engine to an engine set point. The control law is a CRONE control designed for robustness with respect to incertitudes on the coefficient values of the transfer function of the engine, where each incertitude is limited by predefined boundaries. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an information recording medium comprising instructions for the execution of an engine shaft speed control method (2) a system to control the speed of a shaft of an engine of a motor vehicle (3) a process for the manufacture of a control system.
