The tool has a support for movement in a borehole, and a neutron source on the support. A neutron monitor is on the support and monitors an output of the neutron source. A gamma-ray detector is on the support and spaced from the neutron source. A shielding material is between the gamma-ray detector and the neutron source. An independent claim is also included for a method for formation logging.
