The installation has a supply reel (11) for a label band (12), a take-up reel (15) for a printed label band, and a printer (4) inserted between the reels. The printer is controlled by a computer for advancing the latter band and the printing of the labels. A photoelectric cell (29) is placed in the downstream of the printer and detects the edge of a label which has just been printed. The position of the cell is adjusted using a knurled control knob (26). The detection is transmitted to the computer to stop the advancement of the band for the printing of the following label.
