Changing projected video based on person detection

A projection video display, in which a display device 48 transmits light emitted from a light source, comprises a person detection device 43, e.g. an infrared (IR) sensor, and a control to change the state of the projected video when a person is detected, reducing dazzle. Alternatively, plural person detectors respectively correspond to plural smaller projection areas, divided from the total projection video area; when a person is detected by one of the detectors - including overlapping areas - the video state within the selected area is changed. The person detection range may change according to the video projection range. When a human is sensed, the video state may be modulated by superimposing a black signal, or reducing the brightness, for example by lowering the light source luminance. A diaphragm or shutter may control the projected image. The image may be returned to its original state after a predetermined time period.
