A system 100 and associated method are disclosed for managing a network slowdown. The method includes measuring (302) a time for a packet to travel from a source node 110 over a given path to a destination node 112 in the network; comparing (308) the time with a threshold for the path; and generating (324) an event when the time exceeds the threshold, wherein the event identifies a hop along the path which exceeds a hop limit within the path. The system comprises a user interface for displaying the identified hop along the path which has exceeded a hop limit.
