Gun cartridge which is liquid tight at high pressures

A gun cartridge is disclosed comprising a generally cup-shaped base 1 housing a propulsive charge 3 and a primer 12, and a cylindrical case 2 housing felt wads 4 and a projectile 5 which is received in the open end of the base 1 to close the cartridge. A seal 8 is provided in the base beneath the propulsive charge forming a liquid tight seal with the bottom of the base and with the internal sides of the case 2. A hole may be provided in the seal 8 in line with the primer 12 to allow the primer to discharge onto the propulsive charge 3. The case 2 may be closed by a closure disc 6 and a second seal 9 may be provided beneath the closure disc and in contact with the walls of the case 2 to form a liquid tight seal. The seals 8,9 may be made of a soft rubber material.
