PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication line configuration method in which transmission delay time is shortened by reducing the number of relaying stages as much as possible while securing communication quality such as communication speed, in an arrangement where many stages of modems are connected serially.;SOLUTION: The communication line configuration method comprises: a step of determining a reference modem in a communication system where downstream modems are continuously connected in series from a basic modem; a step of instructing a first downstream modem connected to the reference modem to connect a second downstream modem and the reference modem; a step of switching a changeover switch so as to connect the reference modem and the second downstream modem; a step of judging the property of a communication state between the reference modem and the second downstream modem; and a step of returning the changeover switch to an original state when the communication state is decided to be bad while maintaining communication with the second downstream modem when the communication state is decided good.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
