PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation device and a map matching method based on vehicle speed capable of precisely specifying the road on which a vehicle is existing by a combination technique with other map matching technique regardless of environment surrounding the vehicle.;SOLUTION: An in-vehicle navigation device 10 is provided with: a speed detection means composed of a distance sensor 5b and a controller 17; a map data base having expected speed pattern data showing the variation of the expected speed relating to road data indicating the road on a map; and the controller 17 for processing the calculation of speed pattern data based on a speed detected by the speed detection means and the calculation of the degree of correlation by comparing the speed pattern data and expected speed pattern data, and specifying the road on which the vehicle is running based on the calculated degree of the correlation.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
