PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photocatalyst that exhibits a high photocatalytic activity in both an ultraviolet region and visible light region. PSOLUTION: A nitrogen-substituted titanium oxide thin film is produced by RF magnetron sputtering process with a target as titanium oxide under the conditions in a nitrogen-containing inert gas atmosphere and at a substrate temperature of 400C or higher. The nitrogen substituted-type titanium oxide contains no rutile structure or nitrogen substitution rate is 1.5% or more. The nitrogen-substituted titanium oxide exhibits optical absorbency in both the ultraviolet region and visible light region as shown in a graph in Fig. 1. PCOPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
