PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing meso-carbon microbeads graphite powder for a negative pole of a lithium ion secondary battery capable preventing increase of irreversible capacity. PSOLUTION: The method for manufacturing meso-carbon microbeads graphite powder for a negative pole of a lithium ion secondary battery is formed by forming meso-carbon microbeads by heat-treating pitches, calcinating then the meso-carbon microbeads under flowing state in inert atmosphere at a temperature of 600C or more and 900C or less, and graphitizing the same.
