PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for compressing a pulse width of short pulse laser light having high energy (concretely, several tens to several hundreds mJ) being about several tens to several hundreds times as high as energy of short pulse laser light which can be handled by conventional techniques.;SOLUTION: A hollow waveguide has two plane plates arranged in parallel with a prescribed gap between them to form a hollow core between the two plane plates and causes noble gas to exit in the hollow core and allows short pulse laser light to be propagated in the hollow core. Short pulse laser light which has been linearly condensed is made incident on the inside of the hollow core of the hollow waveguide so that an extension direction of a line of the short pulse laser light is along a free direction orthogonal to a gap direction in an end face on which the short pulse laser light enters, of the hollow core, and the entered short pulse laser light is propagated in the hollow core to extend a spectrum width of the entered short pulse laser light.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
