PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a direct backlight device capable of enhancing directivity of light emitted from respecting light emitting areas when a strip-like luminance distribution is provided in a display screen of a liquid crystal display device by forming the plurality of light emitting areas with a plurality of light sources and independently controlling luminance of the respective light emitting areas, high in luminance uniformity in the display screen of the liquid crystal display device when all the light emitting areas are lit, and having a simple structure.;SOLUTION: A plurality of cylindrical light sources 2 capable of forming a plurality of light emitting areas, and allowing luminance of the respective light emitting areas to be independently adjusted are arranged in parallel with each other between a diffusion layer 4 for diffusing and emitting light entered therein and a planar reflecting plate 3a for reflecting light which are arranged oppositely to each other; reflecting walls 5 each having a height in the normal direction from the reflecting plate 3a is mounted on the reflecting plate 3a so as to be positioned between the cylindrical light sources 2 when viewed from a plane parallel with the reflecting plate 3a; the height (e) of the reflecting wall 5 located at both ends is set smaller than the height (d) of the reflecting walls 5 located at positions other than both the ends.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
