PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting system for a flat display device which can increase a light utilization efficiency.;SOLUTION: The lighting system for the flat display device is provided with a light source, a light guide plate which conveys and distributes a light emitted from the light source and is composed of an optical isotropic substance, a collimator which is placed neighboring with a side of the light guide plate neighboring with the light source and makes light incident into the light guide plate at a predetermined range of an incident angle, a polarization separation layer which is composed of an optical anisotropic substance having two refractive indices and is placed on an upper face of the light guide plate and makes a first polarized component out of an incident light from the light guide plate pass through and makes a second polarized component reflect totally at an interface with the light guide plate by two refractive indices, and a light-emitting layer which is placed on an upper face of the polarization separation layer and emit the incident light from the polirization separation layer.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
