PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface coated cemented carbide cutting tool having a hard coating layer exhibiting excellent chipping resistance in high-speed heavy cutting for material hard to cut.;SOLUTION: The hard coating layer of the surface coated cutting tool includes a lower layer and an upper layer, wherein (a) the lower layer is a Ti compound layer having the total average layer thickness ranging from 0.5 to 15 μm, and (b) the upper layer is a composite oxide layer having a structure in which in the chemical deposition forming state, a dispersed phase made of composite oxide of Al, Cr and Si is dispersed and distributed in basis material of of a composite oxide of Al and Cr, the Cr content ratio satisfies 0.05 to 0.35 by proportion (an atomic ratio) to the total quantity of Al and Cr contained in the upper layer, the Si content ratio satisfies 0.01 to 0.10 by proportion (an atomic ratio) to the total quantity of Al, Cr and Si contained in the upper layer, and further the upper layer has the average layer thickness ranging from 0.5 to 13 μm.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
