PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an optically active 3-(3-hydroxyphenyl)-2-alkoxypropanoic acid (2), etc., by asymmetric hydrolysis with an enzyme.;SOLUTION: This method for producing a compound (2), etc., is provided by performing the asymmetric hydrolysis by using the following asymmetric hydrolase having a capacity of hydrolyzing the ester group of one of its mirror image isomer preferentially in a mixture of the mirror image isomers of a 3-(3-hydroxyphenyl)-2-alkoxypropanoic acid ester (1) [wherein, R1 is a 1-4C alkyl; R2 is a 1-6C alkyl; and a carbon atom attached with * mark is an asymmetric carbon], or a cultured material or its treated material of microorganisms having a production capacity of the enzyme.
