MALEATED HIGH-ACID-VALUE HIGH-MOLECULAR-WEIGHT POLYPROPYLENE OF LOW COLOR

PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new maleated polypropylene with a low color, a higher molecular weight and a higher acid value, which contains polypropylene, maleic anhydride and a free radical initiator in specified proportions, at a higher efficiency. PSOLUTION: The maleated polypropylene has an acid value greater than 4.5, a yellowness not greater than 76 and a number average molecular weight of at least 20,000. In a method for preparing the maleated polypropylene, an intimate mixture of polypropylene melt and maleic anhydride melt is continuously formed at one end of a reactor, the free radical initiator is continuously introduced, and a maleated polypropylene with a high acid value, a high molecular weight and a low color is continuously taken out from the opposite end of the reactor.
