APPARATUS FOR SUPPORTING HEADER TRANSPORT FUNCTION IN MULTI-CHANNEL ENCODING

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that a prior art multi-channel coding technology cannot support header transport function (HRTF)-based downmixing which is necessary to generate a stereo downmix having 'surround sound' effects.;SOLUTION: This invention introduces a simple method to support HRTF-based downmixing by adding a pre-processing module to a prior art encoder and a de-convolution module to a prior art decoder. The pre-processing module processes multi-channel signals with HRTFs and forms intermediate input signals to the prior art encoder so that the stereo downmix signals comprise the necessary component signals to exert the surround effects. The de-convolution module removes the HRTFs from the intermediate output signals from the prior art decoder to recover the desired multi-channel signals.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
