PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gene relating to weight loss which is the most important prognosis determining factor in COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and a polymorphism relating to weight loss in COPD and existing in the gene or a neighboring DNA region of the gene. PSOLUTION: In order to solve the above problem, the inflammation inducing characteristics of sPLASB2/SB(secretory phospholipase ASB2/SB) were intensively studied in relation to the chromic and systemic inflammation which is a latent factor to cause the weight loss in COPD patient, and 12 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) have been found around the gene of group II subfamily sPLASB2/SB. Subsequently, it has been found that the SNP10 (NCBI reference: rs584367) is a sensitive SNP relating to the reduction of BMI of COPD patient by using a genom DNA collected from 276 male COPD patients.
