PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document management apparatus capable of surely disposing only a document whose storage period has expired in the case of scrapping confidential documents or the like. PSOLUTION: The document management system is provided with: a document generation apparatus 1 for generating a document to which document ID is added; a document management apparatus 2 for managing the document ID added to the document correspondingly to the storage period of the document, and when the disposal permission of the document specifying the document ID is inquired, confirming the storage period of the document corresponding to the specified document ID, and when the storage period has expired, permitting the disposal of the document; and a document disposal apparatus 3 for reading out the document ID of the document to be disposed of, inquiring the document management apparatus 2 about document disposal permission while specifying the read document ID, and when disposal permission is provided from the document management apparatus, performing the disposal processing of the document.
