PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metallic island film material for surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy which can be used for dozens of times and allows an extremely sensitive measurement of microquantities of liquid matters or fine powders, and a process for manufacturing the film material.;SOLUTION: In the process for manufacturing the metallic island film material, a metallic island undercoat is formed on an infrared-transmitting substrate, and continuous film formation is performed on the metallic island undercoat within a same vacuum tank to form and laminate metallic island films of a metal element, wherein the metallic island film material is laminated on the infrared-transmitting substrate via the metallic island undercoat of a metal selected from transition metals interposed between the infrared-transmitting substrate and the metallic island films of the metal element.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
