PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a white balance device which can keep accurate white balance even when a picture has a small white part.;SOLUTION: This is a white balance device which corrects white balance by using a video signal and is equipped with a block mean signal extraction part 114 which divides the picture into blocks and averages signals of each divided area to obtain block mean signal as representative values of each of the blocks, a block luminance peak signal extraction part 16 which obtains signals of the parts of the maximum luminance signals among the signals of each of the divided areas as block luminance peak signals as representative values of each of the blocks, and a signal switching part 119 which selects the block mean signals or block luminance peak signals according to the state of an object and uses them for white balance control.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
