PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an encoder/decoder, capable of performing tailing reproduction without making large circuit investments.;SOLUTION: The encoder/decoder 100, for apparently simultaneous performing of encoding and decoding, comprises (a) a variable length encoder 101 for performing variable length encoding processing, which does not include arithmetic coding processing, with respect to input data and generating first kind stream data; (b) an arithmetic coder 102 for performing the arithmetic coding processing, relative to the first kind stream data and generates second kind stream data; (c) a first recording area 121 for recording the second kind stream data; and (d) a variable length decoder 104 for performing variable length decoding processing, by which decoding is performed to obtain a data form, before performing the variable length encoding processing, with respect to the first kind stream data, and generating the output data.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
