In the production of the mat material, the lawn grass of the lawn raw mat obtained by forming grown lawn grass with root soil attached thereto into a mat is blighted by subjecting the same to at least one of air drying treatment, freezing treatment, heat treatment, microwave irradiation treatment, tight seal treatment and chemical treatment.
