PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently produce cycloolefins, internal olefins or polyolefins in a short time by bringing an olefin substrate into a metathesis reaction in a reaction liq. in which a metathesis catalyst comprising specified ruthenium compd., a specified phosphate, a specified dihalogeno compd. and a reducing agent is charged. ;SOLUTION: A ruthenium metathesis catalyst comprises a ruthenium compd. of formula I, a phosphine of formula II, a dihalogeno compd. of formula III and a reducing agent. In the formulae I-III, X¹ and X² are each a halogen, arene is hydrocarbon having a benzene ring, R¹-R³ may be identical or different and are each a 1-8C alkyl, a 3-8C cycloalkyl or aryl which may have a substituent such as a 1-8C alkyl or a 1-8C alkoxy and R⁴ is a 1-8C alkyl which may have an ether bond, a 3-8C cycloalkyl or the like.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
