PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a voucher reception system comprising a voucher reception handling machine and a cash register capable of automatically determining by an inexpensive composition whether or not it is allowed to give change for vouchers when handling reception of the vouchers such as a merchandise coupon paid by a customer as purchase payment.;SOLUTION: The voucher reception handling machine has a distinguishing means 12 reading a coupon type code and a denomination code provided on the voucher such as a merchandise coupon, a coupon type code table 15 storing in advance correspondence relationship between the coupon type code and change payment propriety, and a change determining means 13 determining whether change is needed or not from denomination of the voucher such as the merchandise coupon paid by the customer as purchase payment read by the distinguishing means and a sales price of the purchased commodities sent from the cash register.
