PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly detect an amount of nitrogen compounds contained in a particulate substance in engine exhaust gas. PSOLUTION: In this method for collecting the exhaust gas from an engine to analyze components contained in the exhaust gas, a filter means with the collected particulate substance contained in the exhaust gas is fed into a heating means to be heated, the nitrogen compounds contained in the particulate substance are oxidized to be converted into nitrogen oxides, the nitrogen oxides are detected by a detecting means, and a detected data is corrected thereafter, using a correction value stored in a prescribed database.
