PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for easily and correctly diagnosing sleep apnea syndrome (SAS) in a short period of time.;SOLUTION: A subject is artificially put to sleep for a short period of time with anesthesia. The respiratory sound of the subject in sleeping is detected by a neck-close contact microphone. A signal obtained by the detection of the respiratory sound is processed by filtering so as to detect the minimum point of a respiratory sound signal being less than a threshold for detecting a respiration end point, and the minimum point is defined as the respiration end point. The interval of the respiration end points is defined as a respiration interval and generated as respiration interval time sequential data. An apnea rate is obtained from the rate of an apnea time which is the total sum of the respiration intervals being less than a threshold for detecting apnea in the respiration interval time sequential data, to the total sum of the whole respiratory intervals.
