The electric dust collector in accordance of the present invention comprises an electrifying part and a dust collecting part, wherein the electrifying part is of corona discharge type and is provided to charge the air dust, the dust collecting part is provided to absorb charged dust in air. A rectangular wave alternating current high-voltage with 0.1-2 Hz is applied between a pair of grounding electrodes and high voltage electrodes to generate an electrostatic field therein. As a result, a suspended particle-containing gas stream passing through the part is charged and the suspended particlesare collected on the electrodes by the electrostatic field in the part.
