PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize the rapid filtering treatment of seawater and the efficient removal of suspended particles in the seawater and further, the purification of a seawater quality, the size reduction of a filter in salt manufacture, the decrease in quantity of back wash water and the recycling of a flocculant.;SOLUTION: The filter is structured of a cylindrical column and a conical column with the reduced ratio of its bore connected to the lower part of the former and a perforated plate fitted to the upper end of the cylindrical column and the lower end of the conical column. In addition, in the filter, the conical column has a filter medium layer formed of a fibrous filter medium and a baffle mounted on the upper part of the cylindrical column for the purpose of removing the suspended particles of the seawater. The seawater treatment method comprises the step to flow 30 to 100 m/H of the seawater with an added flocculant from the upper end of the cylindrical column of the filter and achieve the adsorption of the suspended particles and the flocculated flock particles of the seawater by the filter medium after filtering the seawater, the step to perform the back flow cleaning by supplying water with an added acid and air from the lower end of the conical column, the step to separate/ remove the suspended particles adsorbed by the filter medium and the step to ionize/ recover the flocculated flock particles adsorbed by the filter medium.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
