PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new transition metal doped spinel type MgGa2O4 (magnesium gallate) phosphor and a manufacturing method thereof.;SOLUTION: This phosphor is produced by using a spinel type structure MgGa2O4 as a host crystal and by doping a transition metal Mn as a light-emitting center into the host crystal, and emits a green light having a peak wavelength of 508 nm and a red light having a peak wavelength of 674 nm depending on a band terminal excitation. The host crystal has a high melting point and the phosphor emits a light according to a charge transfer transition, so that a light emitting efficiency thereof is high.
