摘要

A transition metal doped spinel type MgAl2O4 phosphor capable of laser oscillation; and a laser apparatus including the same. The phosphor is produced by mixing together an Al raw material, an Mg raw material added in such an amount that the amount of Mg is some percents, in terms of molar ratio, over the amount of Al of the Al raw material and a transition metal raw material; forming the raw material mixture into a raw material rod by pressure molding; and subjecting the raw material rod to floating zone melting processing in a given atmosphere gas so as to effect conversion to a single crystal. The Ti doping amount is such that with respect to the composition formula MgAl2-xTixO4, 0.003 ≤ x ≤ 0.01. The Mn doping amount is such that with respect to the composition formula Mg1-xMnxAlO4, 0.003 ≤ x ≤ 0.01.
