PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new water-based, surface-treating agent and a surface- treated metal produced by using the same.;SOLUTION: The water-based surface-treating agent for a treatment of metal surface contains an acrylic resin, water and a colloidal silica of an amount of 5-35 wt.% in terms of solid component wherein said acrylic resin is a polymer having a glass transition temperature of 0-30°C and produced by the polymerization reaction of (a) 15-76 wt.% (meth)acrylate unsaturated monomer expressed by general formula (1) (R¹ is H or methyl; and R² is a 1-8C straight or branched-chain alkyl), (b) 2-10 wt.% α,β-ethylenic unsaturated monomer having carboxy group in the molecule, (c) 2-10 wt.% α,β-ethylenic unsaturated monomer having hydroxyl group in the molecule, (d) 10-30 wt.% styrene, (e) 10-30 wt.% acrylonitrile and (f) 0-10 wt.% unsaturated monomers copolymerizable with the above monomers.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
