Cyclodextrin derivatives with substituent groups derived from 6-24C alkylamido derivatives of amino-acids and attached to the cyclodextrin system by amide linkages, are new. New cyclodextrin derivatives comprise formula (I). [Image] R 1-NH-E-AA-(L 1) p(L 2)q (II); E : 1-15C hydrocarbyl (optionally unsaturated, optionally with heteroatoms); AA : an amino-acid residue; L 1, L 26-24C hydrocarbyl (linear, branched or cyclic, optionally unsaturated, optionally with heteroatoms); p, q : 0 or 1 (at least one of these must be other than 0); R 2H, methyl, isopropyl, hydroxypropyl or a sulfobutyl ether group; R 3H, or R 2(except when R 2is hydroxypropyl); all R 4groups : OH or R 2(not if R 2= hydroxypropyl), or one or more R 4is R 1and the others are either OH or R 2(not if R 2is hydroxypropyl); n : 5, 6 or 7 Independent claims are also included for (1) a method for the preparation of (I) by reacting cyclodextrin derivatives of formula (VII) with compounds of formula AA-(L 1) p(L 2) q(VIII) (2) inclusion complexes of (I) and hydrophobic compounds; and (3) organized surface-active systems containing (I) or inclusion complexes of (2).
