PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medicine useful for treating or preventing several kinds of autoimmune diseases and inflammatory diseases by identifying a new cell surface molecule simultaneously having both functions of mediating intercellular adhesion between lymphoid cells and of signaling of control of the cell activation and/or cell function, revealing its structural and biological properties and using the molecule or an antibody against the molecule. PSOLUTION: The monoclonal antibody differentially manifested in thymocyte, ConA-stimulation activated lymphocyte and peripheral blood lymphocyte and introducing intercellular adhesion of the cells is found out in monoclonal antibody to the cell surface molecule significantly working in autoimmune diseases and allergic diseases. The cell surface molecule recognized by the monoclonal antibody is separated and identified and functions of the molecule is analyzed. The antibody to the molecule significantly suppresses disease conditions of autoimmune diseases and allergic diseases. PCOPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
