MRSA infection defense agent

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new controlling agent for infections with methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA) by compounding cycloprodigiosin. ;SOLUTION: This agent is composed of cycloprodigiosin or its salt, preferably cycloprodigiosin hydrochloride as an active component. The cycloprodigiosin hydrochloride is produced without having contaminants of other prodigiosins by culturing the strain Pseudoalteromonas denitrificans AK-1 (FERM P-15771), a kind of marine bacteria. The agent has antibacterial activity on MRSA and is used for the control and treatment of diseases caused by MRSA infection. The daily dose is 0.1-0.5mg/kg in the case of oral administration and 0.1-0.5mg/kg in the case of parenteral administration, especially of injection. In the case of spray, it is used as a spray solution of 0.01-0.1mg/l in concentration.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
