PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear motor which obviates the need for separately providing a linear motor and a guidance mechanism.;SOLUTION: This linear motor is equipped with a bar-shaped inner section which constitutes either a mobile part or a fixed part constituting the linear motor, and an outer section which has a setting pit wherein the inner section is fitted slidably and constitutes the other of the mobile part and the fixed part. A pressurized fluid is supplied between the outer face of the inner section and the inner face of the setting pit and a hydrostatic bearing is formed. The bar-shaped inner section may be circular in cross section which is vertical with respect to the direction of the slide.
