PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for estimating the accent position of a unregistered word with high accuracy, by using a rule that is not limited by word length. PSOLUTION: The method for estimating an accent position includes an input setting processing for setting maximum vector length of permissible reading length, and creating the vector of the same length as the maximum vector length from a sign, showing reading of unregistered word and from a sign showing that a reading sign is not present, when the number of signs showing reading is less than the maximum vector length; and accent position discriminating processing for discriminating the accent position of the unregistered word by using the vector set by this input-setting processing, and an accent position discrimination rule.
