PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply, inexpensively provide under mild condition covered hydrogen storage alloy particles capable of realizing a secondary battery (especially a nickel hydrogen secondary battery) having high durability (cycle life characteristic) especially under high temperature without damaging battery performance such as discharge capacity or high rate discharge characteristics, and to provide a negative electrode for the secondary battery using the covered hydrogen storage alloy particles as an active material and the secondary battery having excellent high temperature durability using the negative electrode. PSOLUTION: The covered hydrogen storage alloy particles are obtained by covering the surfaces of the hydrogen storage alloy particles with potassium titanate. The covered hydrogen storage alloy particles are manufactured by adding the hydrogen storage alloy particles (B) and metallic titanium and/or titanium oxide to high concentration potassium hydroxide aqueous solution and heating the mixture. The negative electrode for the secondary battery uses the covered hydrogen storage alloy particles as the active material. The secondary battery uses the negative electrode.
