An error correction encoding method and an error correction decoding method capable of detecting an audio signal error and correcting the error when multiplexing a video signal and an audio signal to be transmitted by the DVI. An error correction code is added to each of the digital audio signal samples and n (n is an integer not smaller than 2) continuous digital audio signal samples added with the correction code are subjected to interleaving, thereby generating an encoded audio signal.
