PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a phosphoric acid-modified epoxy resin which can substantially control the introduced amount of a phosphate group into an epoxy resin raw material, and to provide a one pack type heat- curable coating composition excellent in the storage stability which contains the resin obtained by the method.;SOLUTION: In the method, a reaction is performed in the formulation condition so that a solution containing an epoxy resin raw material, a phosphoric acid source, water and a water-miscible organic solvent without an active hydrogen can be homogeneous.
