PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ADSL modem capable of effectively reducing a transmission echo distortion noise, which is generated owing to the reflection of a line, especially when the distance of a cable is other than a near distance, and to provide a transmission echo noise distortion reducing method in the ADSL modem.;SOLUTION: The ADSL modem performs communication with a CO in response to G.hs. The performance of the communication is made to continue as it is (step S306) on condition that a prescribed dynamic range is secured when the communication can be performed by an EC system (step S305Y). When the dynamic range is not secured, the communication is performed by turning on a second high-pass filter for cutting-off a transmission band (step S309).
