PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To unify kinds of optical units to be used in a pair as a set.;SOLUTION: Loading positions of two light receiving units 5 are recognized based on discrimination information included in light intensity distribution of the light receiving units 5 in output signals, namely, the discrimination information to what end parts of the coordinate input/detection area 3 the light receiving units 5 are loaded and whether or not harnesses of the light receiving units 5 are exactly connected with its controller etc., is judged on the premise of structure that retoreflective members 7 are arranged around the coordinate input/detection area 3, the retroreflective member 7 is irradiated with light from a pair of the light irradiation units 5 and coordinate positions are detected by receiving its reflected light by a pair of the light receiving units 5 installed on both ends of the coordinate input/detection area 3.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
