PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate correct reception converting data in each part of division areas through the use of a reference for deciding the correctness of reception convergence by dividing a region to be image-picked-up.;SOLUTION: An ultrasonic signal is transmitted toward the region to be image-picked-up and converged through the use of a transducer string and the ultrasonic signal reflected from the object region is received and converged based on a plurality of delay profiles so as to generate a plurality of kinds of preliminary scanning line data. The object region is divided into a plurality of judgement areas, one of the preliminary scanning line data is selected concerning each divided judgement area, selected scanning line data are composited, and then, adaptive scanning line data are generated. Besides, the preliminary scanning line data are simultaneously or successively generated by the parallel or successive adaptation of the delay profiles.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
