PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a Gaussian noise in a video signal. ;SOLUTION: The best qualified blocks in an image of a video signal with a comparatively uniform luminance are found out, an average standard deviation of the best qualified blocks is calculated, the average standard deviation is temporally filtered over a plurality of other images of the video signals to obtain a smoother standard deviation, and the smoothed average standard deviation is calculated into a scale of a corresponding input noise to detect a Gaussian noise in the video signal.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
