PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system for detecting the position of a rolling stock or the like based on the GPS information, etc., transmitted by radio waves from a plurality of GPS satellites orbiting the earth.;SOLUTION: DGPS is applied to a mobile traveling system, the first traveling of a rolling stock 2 is performed, and a ground marker 12 is detected. An information processing unit 22 stores the coordinates at the time point in an information storage unit 23. In the second and subsequent traveling, the ground marker 12 is detected, and the information processing unit 22 retrieves the known marker position coordinates closest to the present marker position coordinates which are the coordinates at the time point from the information storage unit 23 and determines the coordinates as the retrieved known marker position coordinates. If the relative distance between the retrieved known marker position coordinates and the present marker position coordinates is not more than the allowable value, the retrieved known marker position coordinates are outputted as the positional coordinates of the ground marker.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
