PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound that has excellent stabilization effect on organic materials against thermal and oxidative deteriorations and is useful as a stabilizer for organic materials by reaction of a specific bisphenol, a phosphorus trihalide and catechol. ;SOLUTION: This compound is a new pentacordinate phosphorus compound represented by formula I [R¹, R², R⁴ and R⁵ are each H, a 1-8C alkyl, a 5-8c cycloalkyl, a 7-12C aralkyl, phenyl; R³ is H, a 1-8C alkyl; X is a single bond, S, the formula: -CHR⁶-(R⁶ is H, a 1-8C alkyl, a 5-8C cycloalkyl)], is excellent in stabilization effect on thermal deterioration and oxidative deterioration of organic materials and useful as a stabilizer for organic materials.
