PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable crack, due to stress corrosion cracking, to be formed at the specific positions of a welding joint. SOLUTION: A method for forming stress corrosion cracking at the welding joint comprises the steps of mutually welding the short edges of two test pieces 1 by a welding material liable, to bring about stress corrosion cracking, providing a defect 4 at a position to be formed with the stress corrosion cracking of the joint 3, engaging the integrated test piece 1 with a frame-like restricting member 2 constituted of a material, having a thermal expansion coefficient larger than that of the piece 1 so as to be able to be infinitesimally displaced in the longitudinal direction of the member, welding the short edges of both the test pieces 1, which are not mutually welded to the member 2 by the welding material which is not liable to bring about stress corrosion cracking, imparting tensile stress of about the half value of the yield point to the joint 3 to the state, in which the stress corrosion cracking is liable to be formed from the defect 4, then exposing the pieces 1 and the member 2 to a high-temperature environment, and forming a crack 6 due to stress corrosion cracking in the joint 3 from the defect 4.
