PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hydrated iron-containing oxide having excellent deodorizing performance against malodor and excellent humidification performance, to provide a manufacturing method therefor, and to provide a method, by which the hydrated iron-containing aluminum oxide is manufactured with a relatively small number of processes and at low cost. SOLUTION: The hydrated iron-containing aluminum oxide containing a 3-valent iron content in a specific ratio and having =200 m2/g BET specific surface area and =20% equilibrium water absorption is manufactured by applying a 2 stage neutralization method to a solution containing a 3-valent iron salt and an aluminum salt and using an alkaline earth metal hydroxide in the 1st stage neutralization.
