Cover for manholes in streets and pavements

The present invention relates to a cover for manholes in streets and pavements provided with two main elements of generally rectangular shape, and namely a frame (1) located in the ground, and a cover element, particularly a cover(2) or a grate located on the frame (1). Said frame (1) is provided in close proximity of its two corners with two horizontal bearing surfaces (6A, 6B) and in close proximity of its other two corners with two sloping support surfaces (6C, 6D) adapted to co-operate with matching support surfaces on inner side of the cover element. The sloping support surfaces (6C, 6D) slope downwards towards the horizontal support surfaces (6A, 6B) and the frame (1) is provided with a stop communicating with a corresponding projection on the cover element. Said stop means and complementing stop means have co-operating sections and form a pivot hinge enabling slight rotation of the cover (1) in its plane about stop means of the frame (1) when a vertical force is applied to the cover (1).
